This article highlights the services that are needed by the elderly in the Philippines. The Foundation's medical mission this winter to the Philippines is going to address the complexities of aging and train the medical community in providing these services.

In April 2014 Dr. De Los Santos, the President and Founder of FIMHR, will meet with the Department of Human Service and the board of the Department of Dangerous Drugs to address the issues related to substance abuse being a medical diagnosis and appreciating the consequences of absence or lack of treatment which translates to multifaceted social issues and problems.
On November 16, 2013 FIMHR sponsored a fundraising event in Palatine to raise money for the earthquake and typhoon victims in the Philippines. The 7.2 magnitude earthquake and typhoon Haiyan of 2013 devastated and displaced many people. Our immediate goal was to provide counseling for acute stress and post traumatic stress to victims especially those who were relocated from different islands. The Foundation for International Mental Health and Rehabilitation hosted a Latin dinner dance event on October 19, 2013 in Chicago. Funds were raised to support our advocacy to promote geriatric programs in the Philippines. The Foundation took this opportunity to partner with a university, outpatient clinic and hospital to identify and train their advocate staff at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital. We donated electronic equipment to an outpatient geriatric center in Cebu City to practice telemedicine.
New program launched at Protacio Hospital by Dr. De Los Santos and his Foundation for International Mental Health and Rehabilitation aims to reinforce his philosophy of a comprehensive medical, psychosocial and psychodynamic model.
